Hibernate in Windows 10 is a state where the PC turns off, but apps stay open. When the PC is turned on, you are back to where you left off. This is a good option in Windows where you can save power by turning off PC but not closing all the apps will help you to get back to work as soon as you turn on the PC. If you are on Windows 10, the Hibernate option may not be enabled by default if look into the Power Menu. In my case, the Hibernate option is enabled by default, but for those who don’t have Hibernate Option enabled in Windows, here is an easy way to do it.

Enable Hibernate Option in Windows 10

Before you start with the steps given below, make sure you don’t have Hibernate Option enabled. You can locate the hibernate option alongside Shut Down in Power Menu. Click on Start, open Power and there you should have Hibernate just above Shut Down. If there are no options visible, then you need to enable Hibernate Option in Windows 10.

Note: Almost all the modern PCs support hibernation so hardware should not be a limitation on these PCs. However, in case you have PC that may not have a decent system configuration, then the Hibernate option may not work they way it should work.

    Step 1

    Open Power Options
: There are three ways to open Power Option as listed below. Take whichever the way you feel the best.
    1. Right-click on the Battery icon at the right side bottom corner of the taskbar and select Power Options.
    2. Right-click on the Start button and select Power Options from the given options.
    3. Open Control Panel and click on System and Security. Under System and Security, click Power Options to open it.
    Step 2

Enable Hibernation Option in Windows 10: Under Power Option, click Choose What does the Power button do option from the left pane.

Next, click Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Now scroll down to the bottom of the page and locate Shutdown Settings. Under Shutdown Settings check the box for Hibernate (show in Power menu).

Click on Save Changes and close the Control Panel or the Power Options window.
Now to locate the Hibernate option, click on Start button and go to Power. Under Power, you should see Hibernate option above Shut down option.

Hibernate is a good feature in Windows 10 as it allows you to keep your tasks alive even after turning off the PC. However, it is recommended that you turn off your PC properly at least once a week.

    Other Hibernate Options:

You can also select what actions puts your PC into Hibernation. Such as closing the lid or pressing the Power button can also put your PC into Hibernation. These options are available under Power Options.

Open Power Options through any of the way shown in Step One above.
Once you are in Power Options click on Choose what the power button do.
If you want to put your PC into Hibernate mode after pressing Power button then select Hibernate for When I press the Power button.

In case you want to put your PC into Hibernate Mode after closing lid ( applicable to only Laptops) then select Hibernate for When I close the Lid.
