If you are an Indian and hold SBI debit card, then you would know that the SBI debit card will not work with Google Wallet. If you have an account on PayPal, the SBI debit card will also not work on PayPal. However, there are some Indian debit cards issued by Indian banks which can be used on PayPal and Google Wallet to make payments. So, in today’s post, I will try to list out all the Indian debit cards accepted by PayPal, Google Wallet, Digital Ocean, Linode and other Non-VBV websites.

If you want to make a purchase on Google Play store, the only option for payment is through Google Wallet. However, due to the 2-factor authentication security system, most of the Indian debit cards will not be accepted by Google Wallet as it does not support any 3D verification methods.

This also holds true for PayPal. The PayPal also does not support any 2-factor authentication system hence you won’t be able to make payment through PayPal using the SBI debit cards.
As I said earlier, there are debit cards issued by certain Indian banks that can be used to make payments through PayPal and Google Wallet as these Indian debit cards are accepted by PayPal and Google Wallet.

The best example of the Indian debit cards accepted by PayPal and Google Wallet is ICICI Bank Debit card. You can use your EMV chip based ICICI bank debit card to make payment in a currency other than INR. However, you may want to activate international transaction on ICICI debit card before making any international transactions. The below list of Indian debit cards accepted by PayPal and Google Wallet will give you an idea whether your bank debit card will work on Google Wallet and PayPal or not.

    How to Activate International Transaction?

    ICICI Bank

I have used the ICICI bank debit card personally and never had any problem making an international transaction. Apart from PayPal and Google Wallet, it can also be used to make payment to hosting services such as Linode and Digital Ocean.

To activate International transaction on your ICICI bank debit card, call the customer help line number and ask them to activate international transaction on your debit card.

Alternatively, you can also activate international transaction by sending an SMS to 5676766 with last 4 digits of your debit card. Type INTL 4364 and send it to 5676766. Replace 4364 with last 4 digits of your debit card number. The international transaction will be activated within 24 hours.

    Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I have an International Debit Card, why International Transaction is not supported?
All the Indian banks including SBI usually issue International Debits cards. However, the use of these debit cards is only restricted to ATMs outside the country. You cannot use them to make online international transaction unless you have one of the card mentioned above in the list.

Can I use my International Transaction Activated Debit Cards on Sites Other than PayPal and Google Wallet such as Amazon US?

Yes, if you can make payment to Google Wallet and PayPal, then you should be able to use your Debit card for almost all the international transactions that require credit cards including

shopping at Amazon.com (US) website from India
    .

Do I need to enter 3D secure PIN or OTP on VBV Supported Sites?

Yes, if a website support VBV (Verified by Visa) or MasterCard SecureCode authentication then you have to enter your 3D secure pin or OTP ( the one-time password that will be sent to your Phone) before completing the transaction even if you have international transaction activated.

Can my card be charged automatically?

Yes, if you have used your card on websites like Linode or Digital Ocean, which requires you to make payment on monthly basis, then your debit card can be charged automatically, as it does not require 3D authentication. So, make sure your unsubscribe or cancel the subscription if you don’t want to be charged again.
