I have been digging around dedicated smartphone forums to find the most annoying Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge common problems and fixes for them as well. Most of the problem may be user specific, and hardly one or two users might have been affected by those problems. However, there are few common Galaxy S7 Edge Problems, which has been discussed by the users now and then. To make things a bit easier for you, here I have made the list of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge common problems and fixes which would highlight what can be done if you are facing any of these problems in your Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge common problem and fixes: The most common Galaxy S7 Edge problems reported by users are bloatware issue, over sensitive touchscreen and capacitive buttons, overheating issue which has become a norm among the latest smartphones, lack of adoptable storage option on MicroSD card, Micro SD card issue with SD card, for transferring photos and media popup notification issue, lagging issues due to TouchWiz Interface, multitasking button and home button not working issue, finger rejection issues, Bluetooth issues being unable to turn off or staying on, slow WiFi issue, camera issues with Warning: Camera failed message which can be properly fixed by turning off Smart Stay setting and more.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Common Problems and Fixes

Most of the issues mentioned earlier in the post are software related issues and can be fixed with a software or firmware update. So, the first thing you should do is go to Software Update section of your phone and see if Samsung has released any new firmware update to fix these issues. Also, make sure you check if the users are facing more problems with the latest firmware update before upgrading to it. If you do not see any firmware update released by Samsung for Galaxy S7 Edge, try the fixed mentioned below and see if any of these workarounds goes well with your phone. However, before that let’s learn how to enable Safe Mode in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and why you should do it.

Why Enable Safe Mode or boot your phone into Safe Mode?

Safe Mode is a feature in PCs as well as smartphones that restarts the phone with basic default settings and apps. So, it will stop any third-party apps and the updates that you might have installed. This is helpful in case any third-party app causing any problem on your phone. You restart your phone in Safe Mode, and if the phone shows no problem while in Safe Mode, you can be sure that a third-party app is causing the issue or might just be any app installed in your phone apart from system apps.

How to Restart Galaxy S7 Edge in Safe Mode?

First, turn off your Galaxy S7 Edge. Now press and hold the Power button. When you see Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on screen, release the Power button and press and hold the Volume down button. Keep holding it until the phone restart and you see Safe Mode at the bottom left corner of the phone’s screen.
To get out of the Safe Mode, simply restart your phone normally.

    Oversensitive Touch Screen Issue

Some of the Galaxy S6 Edge owners have reported that the device’s screen is too sensitive to use. This causes accidental app selection or not so good typing experience. This has to be a software glitch and can possibly be fixed with software update.

Until then you can try to put on a case on your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The problem occurs because of the edge of Galaxy S7 Edge, which you may not be able to use without touching its edges. If you can get a case for the device, it would provide you with more space and grip to hold the device without accidental touches.

If the main screen is also too sensitive for your use, you may like to get a screen protector. Though it is hard to find a perfect fitting screen protector for Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge due to its curved edges, you may still be able to get your hands on a screen protector which can last long until you get a software update. Though, these are only workarounds as unfortunately there is no official update yet from Samsung to tune down the sensitivity of the touch screen.

Galaxy S7 Edge Camera Failure Issue

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has one of the best camera units among all the smartphones. However, there are reports suggesting that they are facing camera failure issue in the phone.
Users have reported that the camera app does not work sometimes, and the device throws an error “Warning: Camera Failed.” This again can be a software issue and should be fixed with an update.

To fix this issue try to turn off Smart Stay in settings. It is a feature that checks the user to see if the user is watching the screen or not. Some users have reported that turning Off Smart Stay has resolved the Camera failed error in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Force Close Camera App – Go to Settings, tap on Applications and open Application Manager and look for Camera. Open Camera app and tap on Force Stop. Also clear data and cache. Restart your phone and see if the error has been resolved.

If not, you can try more typical and go to fixes such as restarting your phone and hard resetting your phone.

To restart Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge press and hold down the power and home button simultaneously until the phone restarts.

Note: Hard Resetting your phone will erase all the data in it except data from your SD card. So make sure, you make a backup of your data before performing a hard reset.

To Hard Reset Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, go to Settings >> General >> Backup and reset >> Factory data Reset >> Reset device >> Delete all.

Fix Galaxy S7 Edge Camera Option Issue

Yet another problem with the Galaxy S7 Edge is that the users are unable to use Camera options in the Camera App. If you open the Camera app, you can take pictures and shoot videos but don’t have access to Camera options.
A simple fix for this could be turning off the easy Mode under Settings.
Go to Settings >> Easy Mode. Turn Off Easy Mode and set it to Standard Mode.
Now try opening the Galaxy S7 Edge camera and you should have access to Camera Options.

Unresponsive Home and Multitasking Buttons Issue

Another common Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge problem is its annoying unresponsive Home and Recent Apps button. Though the Home and Recent apps button are said to be working fine for most of the time, occasionally it may become unresponsive thus forcing you to tap it more than once.

    Possible fixes for this are:

Restart: A simple restart might just fix unresponsive home and recent apps button issue in the device.

Turn Off Car Mode: Though this may not be the case with everyone facing this problem, still give it a try and turn off Card Mode and see if it can fix the issue.

    Frequently Lagging Issue

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a powerful processor irrespective of the processor make they are using. Despite this, some of the users have reported lagging issues in the phone. The lagging issue is nothing but a software issue and can be fixed with a quick firmware update. In the meantime, you can try these workarounds to fix the lagging problem in Galaxy S7 Edge.

Switch From TouchWiz: Some of the users are blaming the new TouchWiz for the lagging problem on the phone. So, what you can do is switch to a thrid-launcher and see if solves the issue.
Turn Off / Tune Down Animation Style: Android phones come with some animation styles which looks cool when you open any app or simply unlocks your phone. What you can do here is that tune down the Animation style scale a bit down so that your phone may feel a bit snappier. You may ask what’s the use of having such a powerful device, if you have to tune down the animation style to get a lesser lagging device, then there is no answer to your question.
To do this, you need to enable Developer Option in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. To enable Developer Option in Galaxy S87 Edge, go to Settings >> System >> About Device >> Software info and tap 7 times on Build Number. You will see a message saying you are now a developer!
Now go to Settings >> System >> Developer Option. Here find Windows Animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale and scale them down to 0.5x as they should have been set to x1.0 by default. Alternatively, you can even turn off them completely.

Wipe Cache Partition: To do this first turn off your Galaxy S7 Edge. Now press and hold the Home Volume Up Power Button simultaneously. When the Samsung logo appears, let go the Power button but keep holding Volume Up and Home button. When you see Android logo, leave all the buttons.

From the Android System Recovery Menu, highlight Wipe Cache Partition using Volume down button and select it using Power button. Once done, select Reboot System Now to restart your phone.

    Galaxy S7 Edge Overheating Problem

Almost every Android phone now released has this overheating issue with them. This is mostly a software related issue and manufacturers timely release firmware updates to fix the heating issues in phones.

What can you do in the meantime?

All you can do is be a little careful with your phone on how you use it. Do not use your phone while on charging. Turn off Bluetooth and WiFi if not in use. Also, go to Settings >> Battery > Battery Usage >> More > Optimize battery usage and select All apps. Now turn it on for all the apps to background power usage by these apps.
Also, go to Settings >> Battery and turn off Fast cable charging.
A little heating is normal with powerful devices. However, in case the overheating issue is out of control and stays for more than few days, you may want to contact the Samsung support.

Micro SD Card Prompt Notification Issue

Whenever you reboot Galaxy S7 Edge, you may expect a popup notification about SD card with the option to Explore or Eject. But, some of the Galaxy S7 Edge users are complaining about occasional micro SD card prompt notification appearing from nowhere with a message stating ” SD card, for transferring phone and media. Explore /Eject”.

Now again this can be a software glitch as well and might be fixed in the next firmware updates. However, as a workaround try this.
Remove and insert the Micro SD card carefully.
Try with different micro SD card and see if the culprit is your Micro SD card.
This does not seem to be a hardware issue, but still you can contact the support to make it clear.

    Missing Adoptable Storage Option Problem

The Android 6.0 MarshMallow has a feature called Adoptable storage which allows the internal memory of a phone to be effectively merged with external storage. Samsung chose not to support it, and the reason given was that people may want to transfer files between their smartphones.

Now just because Samsung thought otherwise doesn’t mean everyone will agree with it. To get back the adaptable storage option in Galaxy S7 Edge, Paul O Brien at MoDaCo posted a tutorial explaining how to do it.

Note: This is an unofficial workaround, so use it at your own risk.

Enable Adoptable Storage in Galaxy S7 Edge (workaround):
Create a backup of your phone’s data.
Download and install Android SDK on your PC. Also, download install Samsung Official USB Drivers from here.
Enable USB Debugging in Galaxy S7 Edge. To do this go to Settings >> System >> About Device >> Software Info >> tap on Build Number 7 times to enable developer option.
Next go to Settings again >> System >> Developer Options >> Enable USB debugging.
Connect Galaxy S7 Edge to PC using USB cable.
Open command prompt in your computer and type adb shell and hit enter.
Now you need to get the disk ID for your MicroSD card. The disk ID will look something like disk: xxx:xxx. Type sm list-disks to find the disk ID.
Now you can use your disk ID to adopt as storage. If you adopt MicroSD as storage, it will appear as merged in Settings >> Storage on your phone.
To adopt it as the storage type, sm partition disk:xxx:xxx private (replace xxx:xxx with your disk ID). If you want to keep some of the MicroSD card storage than type sm partition disk:xxx:xxx mixed 50.

    Annoying Pre-Installed Apps Problem

Bloatware is the favorite word for the mobile OEMs and your Mobile carriers. They usually tend to install too many useless apps in your device out of the box. Which unfortunately most of the time is impossible to uninstall unless you root your Galaxy S7 Edge. However, you can disable these annoying apps from the apps settings.

Go to Settings >> Device >> Applications >> Application manager. Find and disable all the pre-installed apps.

    Slow WiFi Issue

Some of the Galaxy S7 Edge users have reported that their phone is causing slow WiFi issue or plain WiFi issue. It makes the connection to drop or becomes unbelievably slow at times.

Some of the workaround for this issue is disabling Bluetooth of the phone and setting WiFi Connection to IPv4 instead of IPv6. This could be software glitch which can only be resolved with an update.

Bluetooth Problem in Galaxy S7 Edge

There are two Bluetooth related problems reported by the users in Galaxy S7 Edge. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge comes with Bluetooth Low Energy features. However, it does not go off when you turn off Bluetooth making your battery drain more faster.

To fix this problem set a time limit on the Bluetooth scan and also don’t try to scan on a loop.

Another Bluetooth related issue is that the users are unable to connect the smartphone to other Bluetooth devices including car’s audio system. This might be a software related issue and requires a software update. However, you can try to force stop Bluetooth app, unpair and re-pair devices and clear cache partition.

USB Debugging Option Grayed/Disabled Out Issue

If you want to connect your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for installing custom ROM or any such purpose, you may need to enable Developer Option. Within which you need to enable USB debugging.

However, the USB debugging option in Galaxy S7 Edge is found to be grayed out by default. This is restricting the users access to the phone. This issue could be because of Samsung’s KNOX security app. The KNOX app may not allow you to enable USB debugging option due to security reasons.

The only solution to this problem is to uninstall the KNOX from Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. However, there aren’t many tutorials explaining how to do it.

As a workaround, go to Application manager and disable al the KNOX related apps such as My KNOX, etc. Disable whichever KNOX related app you can disable. Once done, try to enable USB Debugging in Galaxy S7 Edge.
