Android 7.0 Nougat final update for the public beta is out. It has been a couple of days since the update has been rolled out for the Nexus devices (Public beta only).

The first device that is scheduled to launch with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box is the upcoming LG V20. The successor to the LG V10 will be launched soon. When? We don’t know yet.

However, what we know so far is all the features of the Android 7.0 Nougat. So, if you are one of the public beta tester or just curious about what the latest version of the Android OS has up its sleeves, then this is the guide for you.

In today’s post, I have listed all the new features in Android 7.0 Nougat. So, let’s get started.

    Top Android 7.0 Nougat Features

There are several new features in the Android 7.0 Nougat including the improved settings app, multi-window view, Quick settings, new Emojis, better security and file level encryption, etc.

    Improved Settings App

If you have a large screen device, then the improved Settings app will take advantage of the large screen. It will show little information before you even open any of the settings.

For example, if you open the Settings app, and look in WiFi section, you can see to which network you are connected without even opening it.

You can view the amount of storage left and occupied on your phone that too without even opening the Storage settings, but just from the Settings app.

    Side Menu under Settings

Another handy feature is Side Menu under Settings. For example, open Storage settings and from the left side, swipe to the right, and you can see the Side Menu.

The Side Menu shows other sub menus under Settings, which otherwise could only be seen after pressing the back button.

    Multi-Window View

The Multi-Window View may not be a new feature when it comes to Android phones, but it was limited to a few specific manufacturers only including Samsung being among the first to bring it.

Now, Google has officially added Multi-Window View feature to the Android 7.0 Nougat.
It allows you to open and view two apps side by side. If you have two apps open, Press and hold the Recent Apps button to activate multi-window view. Press and hold it again to close it.

    Picture-in-picture Mode

In the Picture-in-Picture Mode, you can continue watching videos on your Android TV, while changing the settings or browsing.

    Custom Quick Settings

Custom Quick Settings allows you to customize Quick Settings tiles option. Quick Settings on the top can be convenient if you use a particular feature extensively.

For example, if you use Flashlight a lot, you can move it to the top of the Quick Settings.

All you have to do is, From the Quick Settings, tap the Drop-down arrow icon, then long press on the setting app tile that you want to move to the top.

Now drag and drop the app to the top and you are done. Press back icon to save the settings.

    Quick Switch Between Apps

Now you can switch between apps quickly. This is a real handy feature that does not require you to press the Recent Apps button and then switch between the app.

Simply, double tap the Recent Apps button to quickly switch between the opened apps.

    Smart Notifications

The Android 7.0 Nougat makes the notifications more accessible to the users. The notifications are now grouped and look wider on the big screen. Two noticeable features here are bundled notification and direct reply.

    Bundled Notification

If you get multiple notifications from the same app, they are now bundled together.
For example, if you receive multiple notifications from the Gmail App, they will be bundled together. You can take separate action on each notification in the bundle.

You can also add emails to the archive or directly reply to them from the Notification area.
If you want to clear any of the notification, simply swipe them to the right to clear it.

    Notification Direct Reply

You can also reply to the notifications such as messages and emails directly from the Notification tray.

Simply expand the notification (if it is a message or email) and tap on Reply. Type your reply and send it. It is an extremely handy feature for a quick conversation.

    Notification Control

The Android 7.0 Nougat gives you more control over notifications. Now you can decide which notification to silence and which to block directly from the Notification area.

For example, if you want to silence the future alert for notification, press and hold the notification and tap on “Show notification silently.”

You can also block all notification from a particular app. This is a real handy feature as you can disable app notifications in Android.

    Doze on the Go

One of the major improvements that the Android 7.0 Nougat brings is in the battery usage.
Doze on the Go is an Android 7.0 Nougat feature that puts your device into low power usage mode when you leave it idle.

If you aren’t using the device or just carrying it around in the pocket, then Doze on the Go will put the device into low power usage mode.

    Data Saver

Another handy feature coming with the Android 7.0 Nougat is Data Saver feature. When turned on, Data Saver will stop background applications from using your Cellular Data.

    Virtual Reality Mode

Even though the VR (Virtual Reality) is not so mainstream among the Android users, the new Android 7.0 Nougat comes with Virtual Reality Mode inbuilt for being future ready.

The upcoming DayDream-ready smartphones will be able to use the Virtual Reality Mode. It allows you to enjoy your favorite apps in Virtual Reality with the help of VR headsets.

    High-Performance 3D Graphics

The latest Android 7.0 Nougat comes with the improved high-performance 3D graphics. According to Google, the Vulkan™ API will provide sharper graphics with eye candy effect on the supported devices.

That means the upcoming and the current Android powerhouses will be able to utilize the hardware to its best.

    Update and Boot

The latest Android 7.0 Nougat will install updates in the background, and you don’t have to wait until the updates are done installing.

According to Google, the devices running the latest Android 7.0 will boot faster than ever. Faster boot means faster access to everything.

    Security and Language

Encryption: The Android 7.0 Nougat now supports file based Encryption, which means the encryption now will happen at the file level. With this Android can better protect your files on the device.

Language: Android 7.0 Nougat also supports more local language which can be used in text messages. When you are typing your text, tap on the globe icon at the bottom to switch between your preferred language.

So, these are the new features in the Android 7.0 Nougat final beta. There are a couple of minor updates such as new emojis and ability to change keyboard layout color etc.

As I already said, the first device to come with Android 7.0 Nougat installed out of the box will be LG V20. When other major OEMs roll out the update for their flagships is yet to be known.
